INTERNATIONAL HEALTH & TRAVEL INSURANCE

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Won’t my domestic health insurance plan be enough to cover me when I travel internationally?

A: Not always! Without the right plan, you may not be covered for an illness or injury abroad. International Medical Group (IMG) has been offering insurance products for travelers and international citizens since 1990. Whether you’re moving abroad, traveling between countries, or maintaining multiple countries of residence, we have an international medical insurance plan to fit your needs.

Q: I need to go to the doctor…what should I do?

A: Present your IMG International Health Insurance I.D. card to the doctor’s office when you first visit. The doctor’s office should contact IMG to verify benefits.

Q: Does my International Health Insurance cover a routine physical?

A: Yes, with the following conditions: 1.) You purchased a Global Medical Insurance certificate and have been covered for 12 months continuously and; 2.) You are age 30 and over and; 3.) Your examinations are separated by 12 months.

Q: I received bills from the hospital…how should I pay?

A: Submit your original bills to IMG with a completed international health insurance claim form. Assuming you have met your deductible and the medical expenses are eligible, IMG will pay directly to the hospital.

Q: Some hospitals insist I pay the bill at the time of service. How do I get reimbursed?

A: Attach your original paid receipts and itemized bill with a completed claim form. IMG will reimburse you, assuming the deductible and coinsurance have been met and the medical expenses are eligible.

Q: What if I receive a bill for less than my deductible, and I haven’t met my deductible yet?

A: Pay the bill, and then forward the original bill to IMG along with an international medical insurance claim form. DO NOT hold the bill until your deductible is met. When the amount of your bills meet or exceed your deductible, IMG will credit the eligible charges toward your deductible.

Q: How long do I have to submit a claim to IMG?

A: This depends on the international health insurance plan that you have purchased:

  • 90 Days from the date of service if you have a Global plan.
  • 3 months from the expiration date if you have a Patriot plan.

Q: Is dental or vision covered in my International Medical Insurance plan?

A: Vision is not covered. Dental will be covered for sound or natural teeth injured as the result of an accident. The Global Platinum plan option provides coverage for both vision and dental.

Q: Am I tied to a list of doctors, or may I visit any provider I choose?

A: IMG does not use a mandatory list of doctors with their International Health Insurance plans, so you may seek treatment with the hospital or doctor of your choice. In the U.S., you may use the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). Outside the U.S., you may use the International Provider Access (IPA). IMG can also refer you to a health care provider, should you need one.

Q: How often do I need to complete an international medical insurance claim form?

A: Submit one claim form for each medical condition or accident you are claiming.

Q: How do I file a claim?

  1. Complete an international medical insurance claim form for each new illness or accident, answering each question in detail. Incomplete claim forms can hold up the process and may be denied.
